Cats on the prowl.

Character parade

On August 29th, everyone in Room 15 wore black, pinned tails on, got their faces painted and became a cat from the poem Matarawa Cats by Rhondda Greig.  Black cats everywhere - prowling, meowing, scratching, crawling and strutting.

Milo and Story

Waiting to hear the stories at Milo and Story night

I went home and picked up Inez.  She was excited about coming to the NWS book night.  We got dressed up and drove back into school.  When we got to school she became shy and didn't want to stay.  She was very grumpy as well as shy and refused to look happy for a photo.  So while we are all ready for our picture, Inez not so much.

Matarawa Cats

by Rhondda Greig

Book week has begun and I'm sharing a poem by Rhondda Greig with some of the classrooms closest to our room.  The language used by Rhondda Greig is descriptive, musical and creative.  I love the way she describes Matarawa, the cats and all their activities.  I especially love her phrasing and choice of vocabulary. Do you have a favourite page?

Ears, tails, claws, all dressed in black.  What are you wearing on Friday?

Room 15 is dressing up as Matarawa cats for the character parade on Friday.  Do you have your black clothes, ears and tails ready??

Monday 18 August 2014

Book week is coming up soon and Room 15 is getting ready.  Two of our classmates have finished recording their book reviews.  Check them out.

Nazheef is quite keen on wrestling.  Miss Skipper likes The Rock.  Who do you like the best?

Phillip has finished Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Third Wheel.  Have you read any of the books in this series?  Do you have a favourite title?

One windy winter night . . .

We are creating stories based on the concept of Superheros.

Students imagined that they went to bed one stormy Auckland night - we've had a few lately so listening to the wind whistle and the leaves of the trees rustle in Room 15 made this very easy to imagine - and woke up with a super power of their choice. How would their lives change? What would they do?

This is the beginning of Zuhenna's writing. Her language choices are interesting and creative. She paints a picture with her words full of imagery. This is also Zuhenna's first use of Google Docs. All in all, I can't wait to read more. Keep it up, Zuhenna

One windy winter night just as I was sleeping nicely in my cozy bed dreaming about chocolate. I was awoken by a loud bang. As I sat in my bed all frightened, looking at the storm outside my bedroom window, I saw lightning hit every house in Cupcake Street.Just then my bedroom window flew open pushed by a gasp of wind.I got out of bed to close the windows.Just as I was going to close the windows lightning hit me and the storm winds blew threw my long hair.I felt myself lifting in the air.My clothes changed into superhero clothes and I could control all storms . . . .

Calico's Goggles

Last week, Calico lost a pair of purple goggles.  Have you seen them ? They had only been worn twice and she'd really like them back.  Please have a look and see if you accidentally picked them up OR maybe you saw where they got to - please let us know.

Art Supplies

This term we are studying form in art.  We are exploring construction as we study form.  This means that we DESPERATELY need materials.  Materials include small cardboard boxes, empty pill boxes and bottles and anything else useful to use.  We are only looking for things which are smaller than cereal boxes.

Can you help ?

Term 3 2014

Here we are in term three.  The time has really flown and we are already in week four of the third term.  Very shortly the year will be done and we'll be on the beach enjoying summer in New Zealand.

Until we get there let's see what's going on.

This week we enter Maths Week.  During Maths Week, Room 15 will be invovled in a number of maths related activities.  Thursday we'll be holding a Mini Commonwealth challenge.  There will be a number of fun and interesting maths related challenges.  We are having a school wide maths challenge whilst raising money for Child Cancer Sufferers.  Cancer has touched many lives we only need to look back on young Samuela who died earlier this year.  This is our chance to give back and to help our community.  I hope you all get behind it and give generously.
