Futsal is a variant of football that is played on a smaller field and mainly played indoors. Its name comes from the Portuguese Futebol de salão , which can be translated as "room football". Pat from Auckland Futsal will be us for the next ten weeks.

Robots at The Mind Lab

The second learning opportunity was presented by Damon.  Damon taught us how to programme a robot which looked like a remote controlled car.  The programme included 'events' to move forward, backward, left and right.

Did you know that all technology is stupid and can only work because we are smart enough to programme it?  We had to use our abilities to tell the robot what to do. We downloaded our program onto the robot and then used the remote control to direct it.   What things do you think that you could get your robot to do with your programming knowledge?

Our visit to the The Mind Lab was engaging, fun and challenging.  I hope we get another opportunity to attend a session there!  What would you most like to learn next?

Why would you recommend The Mind Lab to others?

Makey Makey at the Mind Lab

Rooms 11, 12 and 15 had the opportunity to attend two different learning sessions at the The Mind Lab today. Each year level worked together and were split into two groups and there were two different workshops.

One session was facilitated by Coco.  Coco taught her groups a little about coding and using Scratch. Coco demonstrated how to make a circuit using a 'Makey Makey' and how to hook up the wires to control the actions needed to play a game effectively making game controllers.

What did you find most interesting today? How would you explain Makey Makey to someone in Year 4?

Working on our Devices

Year 5's have taken their Chromebooks home in Term 2. More and more each day using a device has become the norm.

Art Installation

During EOTC week the classes all participated in a wide array of activities. Bush walks, trips to the beach, learning about nature, arts and crafts. Mrs Dower took a group of Year 2s and created fabric dye works. We went to check them out with our buddies. They were up outside the pool. Did you have a chance to see them?

Reading with our buddies

Each week Room 15 tries to get together with rooms 14 and 18.  Sometimes we sing songs, sometimes we do art and sometimes we read together.
